Baseball: Fox Valley roundup Wednesday, May 6

Jacobs 4, CL Central 3 (12 inn.): It took 12 frames for the Golden Eagles to get their 20th win of the season thanks to Stevie Krueger's walk-off knock to center that scored Nate Meland. Daniel Tenayuca and Owen Oreskovich doubled for Jacobs (20-5, 9-2) while Krueger led all batters with 2 RBI. Evan Liebau pitched the final 3 innings (2 hits, 1 run) for the win in relief of Casey Dennison (7.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 K, 1 BB) and Johnny Rohde (1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K).

South Elgin 3, Metea Valley 0: Mitch Butvilas cranked out 2 hits, including a double, as the Storm snapped its 4-game Upstate Eight losing streak. South Elgin (12-6, 9-6) received a double from Dane Toppel, an RBI from Michael Cipriani and lights out pitching from Maxwell Keough, who allowed just 4 hits and 1 walk with 4 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout.

Cary-Grove 11, McHenry 1 (5 inn.): Wyatt Mascarella went 2-for-2 with a double, a homer and 4 RBI in Cary-Grove's Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. Jimmy Perkins (3-for-3, RBI) also doubled while Matt Sutherland and Larkin Hanselmann each had 2 hits for the Trojans (15-6-2, 8-1). Pitcher Nick Franz (3 hits and 1 ER, 3 BB, 3K) earned the win on the bump.

Bartlett 1, Glenbard East 0: The Hawks (12-11, 9-6) needed extra-inning heroics to grab a UEC Valley win. Tripp Paris (3 H, 3 BB, 6 K) pitched 7 scoreless innings while Shane Donovan in relief walked 1 and struck out 1 in his 2-inning victory. Jordan Flint provided the game's only RBI in walk-off fashion in the ninth on his single. Michael Pfaender also lined 2 doubles.

Elgin 2, West Chicago 0: The Maroons (7-18, 3-11) snapped an 8-game skid with a masterful UEC River pitching performance by John Nelson, who allowed just 3 hits on 4 walks and 4 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout. Jack Koeckritz and Dean Anderson each had 1 RBI in the second inning and Koeckritz, Clay White and Tom Sobeski registered doubles.

Riverside-Brookfield 6, St. Edward 1: In Metro Suburan West action, the Green Wave (7-15, 4-11) surrendered 5 runs through 2 innings as Joe Martell's seventh-inning RBI was too little, too late. David Groves collected 3 hits for St. Edward, which saw pitcher Alex Lara tagged for 5 earned runs on 5 hits.

St. Charles North 9, Larkin 3: Tanner Gardon and Kordell Thomas brought home 2 runs and Jon Lenz ripped a double, but the Royals (7-16, 4-12) couldn't keep up with the North Stars in UEC River action. North pounded out 13 hits to Larkin's 5 while 4 Royals errors didn't help matters.

St. Charles East 6, Streamwood 0: The Sabres (4-18, 3-12) only mustered 2 hits and committed 3 errors in their fifth-straight UEC River loss. Zach Campbell doubled for Streamwood while Jr Alvarez was only charged for 3 earned runs on 7 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

Prairie Ridge 10, Hampshire 1: The Whip-Purs (13-10, 7-7) were lit up for 9 runs bridging the fourth and sixth innings during a loss to the FVC Fox Division leaders. Nick Mohlman tacked on Hampshire's only RBI and Carter Lawler had 2 hits as the Whips were outhit 13-5.
