214@100: Principal builds on Hersey's success

Gordon Sisson was an accomplished educational leader, the principal of a high school in Marshfield, Wisconsin, when he learned that John Hersey High School was looking for a new principal.

Sisson already knew something about Hersey - he and his administrative team had been studying the academic gains made by Hersey students. He knew how much the Hersey community valued and supported public education.

Sisson was named principal in 2012. Since Sisson took the helm, the school has further improved upon its academic achievement. Reading scores have increased substantially and the math department has experienced tremendous and significant student academic growth in the last two years.

Sisson, who comes from a family of teachers, said he is proud to work alongside Hersey educators. "The entire staff at John Hersey High School unites for a common goal of providing an environment that maximizes student potential," he said. "The collaborative effort regarding that goal is significant and remarkable, and is simply inspiring to be a part of each and every day."
