The Des Plaines Community Concert Band will Celebrate Moms with a Concert on May 10 at Prairie Lakes Theater

The Des Plaines Park District Community Concert Band will perform on Mother's Day and present a concert entitled, "That Which Made Us", on Sunday May 10 at 3:00pm in the Prairie Lakes Theater. This is the final in a series of Sunday concerts, with this being a celebration of Mothers and a reflection of days gone by. The program features music that will stir a nostalgic "chord" with guests, young and old alike. That Which Made Us will take the audience on a tour of exactly that: the various experiences and traditions that shape who we are. From our nations roots in the revolution (Waves of the Revolution), and the influence of British culture (Colonel Bogey), to the flashy side of Americana (Barnum and Baileys favorite). Experience the hard work, perseverance and life lessons the cowboys have to offer (The Cowboys), the tranquility and spirituality of the Shakers (Simple Gifts), the struggles for excellence and equality (A Tribute to Sammy Davis Jr.), and the gift of children (The Children's March). The Children's March will be dedicated to all mothers.

In addition to the musical tribute, each mom in attendance will receive a gift on behalf of the Park District. During intermission, guests can enjoy elegant snacks at the Garden Café and don't forget to get a family photo to mark the occasion. The Des Plaines Camera Club will be on hand to provide complimentary photos.

Mark Wozniczka will be the guest conductor for the concert. Mr. Wozniczka has been a member of the Des Plaines Community Band since 2010. He currently serves as the Choral and Percussion Director at Saint Patrick High School in Chicago, IL. Mark earned his Bachelor of Music Education at the VanderCook College of Music, and is currently pursuing his Master of Music Education at the University of Florida. Mark is an active church musician as both an instrumentalist and vocalist, and sings regularly with the Apollo Chorus of Chicago.

The Des Plaines Park District is currently in the process of finding a permanent replacement and appreciates Mr. Wozniczka's willingness to step in to this role.

Tickets are available at the door: adults $8; seniors and students $5; and a family of four $15. Concerts are free for children under the age of 6. Des Plaines Theater is located at 515 E. Thacker Street in Des Plaines.

The Des Plaines Community Concert Band will kick of this year's "Live at the Lake" Summer Entertainment Series on Thursday, July 2 at Lake Park Memorial Pavilion. The concert will begin at 7:00pm. Bring a lawn chair or blankets and enjoy some wonderful music, the cool lake breeze and a beautiful sunset.
