214@100: The world takes notice of W.H.S. STEM program

In 2014, the British were coming once again, this time to Wheeling High School.

A member of Parliament visited to learn more about Wheeling's science, technology, engineering and math programs, in particular the nanotechnology lab, the Certified Nursing Assistant program, accounting classes and the manufacturing and engineering classes.

"I was really impressed with the nanotechnology lab and way that STEM subjects are a core part (of the curriculum)," said Henry Smith, from Crawley, England. "I'm grateful for the ideas I got to see on my visit and hope to translate these back home."

Smith's visit was the first international recognition Wheeling got for its STEM program, which Principal Angela Sisi believes is an indicator of the school's success.

"When other countries are coming to us and telling us we're inspiring them, we know that what we're doing is right," Sisi said.
