214@100: Elk Grove principal inspired by his staff

Paul Kelly's childhood teachers in southern Illinois left a lasting impression, and inspired him to follow in their professional footsteps. But only after working as a history teacher at two Chicago suburban high schools did Kelly aspire to leadership.

In 2007, he became a division head at John Hersey High School. Six years later, he was named principal of Elk Grove High School.

Throughout his career, Kelly has picked up state and national awards for his innovative teaching and leadership styles. In 2005, he received the Milken National Educator Award.

Kelly is extremely proud of the educators at Elk Grove because of their dedication to students' futures. "There is a real sense of shared ownership in Elk Grove's collaborative culture," Kelly said. "They embrace not only their individual role, but also the collective impact they have on students' life pathways."
