Book published of art, stories

For 106 years, Mental Health America of Illinois has led the observance of May as Mental Health Month by reaching thousands of people through the media, local events and screenings.

This year's May is Mental Health Month theme is the storytelling-art Project, Manifesting Healthy Futures: 24/7 Voices and Visions of Wellness. MHAI is publishing a book of the collection of stories and artworks to be available for sale at their annual health fairs in the Thompson Center in May, and also on Amazon. These stories will assist people nationwide to begin to share their story and seek the assistance they need to live healthy, thriving lives.

Mental health experts say fully embracing the concept of wellness not only improves health in the mind, body and spirit, but also maximizes one's potential to lead a full and productive life.

"Using strategies that promote resiliency and strengthen mental health and prevent mental illness leads to improved general health of individuals, families and communities, leading to a healthier society overall," said Mary Ruth Coffey, executive director, Mental Health America of Illinois. "Our goal is to erase the stigma of mental illness and encourage people to seek early and integrated wellness and care."

Mental Health America, the parent company to MHAI, is the country's leading nonprofit dedicated to helping people live mentally healthier lives. The organization represents a growing movement of Americans who promote mental wellness for the health and well-being of the nation; every day and in times of crisis.
