Letter to editor: Rauner just fixing past mistakes

It's budget season, and there's a 4-letter word being used that makes many politicians cringe: cuts.

Don't blame Governor Rauner for the cuts. For decades this state has spent money it didn't have.

Politicians kept kicking the can down the road. Well, the road is coming to a detour.

Illinois is broke and Rauner was elected for mainly one reason, to get our state in better financial condition.

Everybody knows what that means, cuts. Some tough decisions have to be made, people understand and agree that cuts in the budget need to be made. Even though many know that, there's blow back from many groups, "we agree that cuts need to be made, but not for us, that would be mean."

This budget and pension crisis has been decades in the making, voters almost made all the right decisions at the last election.

They voted in Rauner for governor to tackle these issues. But they voted back in the people who are mostly responsible for the mess the state is in, namely Madigan and the Democrats.

Michael Madigan and the Democrats have been running this state for decades, and they've run it into the ground. Yet people keep electing them over and over and expecting different results with how the state is run.

Remember how the lottery money was supposed to help the schools? Oh, they took the lottery money and put it in the school budget all right. The problem is whatever that amount of lottery money was, they reduced to education budget by that amount. So instead of schools getting EXTRA money from the lottery, nothing changed.

This is your government at work.

You want to see real changes, changes like we've seen in Indiana, Wisconsin and other states? Start voting for conservative folks that have a "R" behind their name.
