Longtime EGHS teacher learns from his students
In his 30 years of teaching AP English and film studies at Elk Grove High School, John Bottiglieri has had a lot of experience as an educator, and watched the changes in education through the eyes of his students.
"I learn from my students every day," Bottiglieri says. Through the years, Bottiglieri has seen the evolution of Elk Grove High School, not just through the introduction of PBIS and new educational standards, but physically as well. Since the time he began teaching, the pool, art wing, Academic Resource Center and extra science labs were added. These physical improvements, he believes, created educational advances and new opportunities for students to learn.
Besides being one of the longest-serving teachers at EGHS, Bottiglieri has contributed his own collection of "The Simpsons" memorabilia to the display case outside the Academic Resource Center, as well as, in 2013-14, his Beatles memorabilia.
His collections and knowledge of film and television helped gain him notoriety in the school. When asked how he wants to be remembered by graduating classes, Bottiglieri said, "I like to think that my students think I'm fair and that I honestly listen to them."
