Cougars rally, but Snappers hold on
The Kane County Cougars rallied from a 5-0 deficit, only to fall short in a 10-8 loss to the Beloit Snappers at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva on Friday night.
For the second straight day, the opposing team used a bloop hit in the ninth inning to turn the tide against the Cougars' favor.
The Cougars' Cody Regis delivered a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, but the Beloit offense bounced back against Zac Curtis (1-2) in the ninth. The big hit was Max Kuhn's 2-run double that popped out of the glove of a diving Victor Reyes.
The Cougars only mustered a two-out single against Joe Torres (2-1) in the bottom of the ninth.
The Cougars sent 10 batters to the place in the fourth and scored 5 runs. Highlights included Stryker Trahan's second RBI, followed by Colin Bray's 2-run single. Grant Heyman's RBI completed a burst of 7 unanswered runs. The lead was short lived when Beloit scored 2 unearned runs.
The series continues today at 6:30 p.m. when the host Cougars send Jeferson Mejia (0-1, 4.34 ERA) against Jordan Schwartz (0-2, 5.40).
