School was right on climate change
In reply to Nancy J. Thorner's letter on climate change, the Cherokee Elementary School got it right. We are in global warming and have been for quite a few years. In 2013, global temperatures were the warmest ever. Then in 2014, we broke that record.
Your comment on polar bears can swim is true, but many will tire and drown with no ice floes. They can adapt and live on land. Seals would probably disappear if they had to live on land. Too many predators on land would probably wipe them out.
Too much carbon dioxide is one cause of global warming. What concerns scientists is the rapid speed at which the earth is warming.
Fossil fuels need to be replaced, but it won't happen overnight. As global warming gets worse, you will see more brownouts and higher food costs. In reality, we are already seeing food costs rise due to the severe drought in California and Texas.
The Cherokee Elementary School in Lake Forest School District 67 got it right.
