Softball: Fox Valley roundup Wednesday, April 29
Hampshire senior Haley Widmayer allowed Genoa-Kingston just 1 hit and struck out 10 Wednesday to lead the Whip-Purs to a 1-0 nonconference softball win.
Melissa Esparaza's double drove in Jasmine Lopez with the game's only run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The win moved Hampshire's record to 9-13 for the season.
Batavia 10, Larkin 0: Batavia's Kaylan Waldron tossed a 6-inning no-hitter against the Royals (4-15, 3-9) in the Upstate Eight River. Sarah Hansen suffered the loss for Larkin.
Westminster Christian 11, Fenton 7: Winning pitcher Becca Fugiel hit 2 home runs and had 4 RBI to lead the Warriors (8-8) to a 10-inning nonconference win. Drew Randazzo, Sarah Schmitt and Rachel Rich each had 3 hits including doubles for Westminster and Emma Kovachevich added a double Kristen Mason had 2 RBI in the top of the 10th inning to spark Westminster's rally.
Streamwood 9, Elgin 3: Emily Unthank had 2 doubles and Becky Roncone added a two-bagger as Streamwood won in the Upstate Eight River. Jessica Daley was the winning pitcher for the Sabres (5-15, 1-11), who snapped a 6-game losing streak. Losing pitcher Jessica Rago was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Elgin (3-17, 2-10), while Sabrina Stockman (2B, RBI) and Madison Latham (3B, RBI) also contributed.
CL Central 7, CL South 0: Crystal Lake South managed just 3 hits in this Fox Valley Conference crossover loss. Hannah Koenig suffered the loss for the Gators (11-7).
West Aurora 5, South Elgin 0: Rachel Ziemba had a double for the Storm (8-12, 6-6) in this UEC Valley loss. Rachel Weiss was the losing pitcher.
Bartlett 25, East Aurora 5: Winning pitcher Alyssa Nowak was 3-for-4 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI and Lauren Janczak was 4-for-5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI as the Hawks (13-6-1, 8-4) rolled to a UEC Valley win. Nina Pavell was also 4-for-5 with 4 RBI for Bartlett.
