Softball: Lake County roundup
Mundelein scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh to earn a 7-5 victory over Lake Zurich on Monday in North Suburban Lake softball.
The Mustangs got 3 hits, including a double, from Maria DeVito. Hannah Bulgart and Maggie Mahar added 2 hits apiece. Mahar also had a double. Lake Zurich was led by Sarah Schnecker with 3 hits while Jessie Puccinelli had 2 hits, including a home run.
Grayslake North 7, Grayslake Central 2: Brooke Phillips and Kayla Switalla each smacked a home run for Grayslake North. Jessica Vaughn was the winning pitcher. She had 5 strikeouts over seven innings. Katie Strickland led Grayslake Central with 2 hits.
Antioch 10, Lakes 0: Winning pitcher Stephanie Bonaguidi allowed just 2 hits and no walks in leading Antioch. Offensively, Hannah Skoog, Taylor Schiltz and Jill Everett each had 3 hits. For Lakes, Jennifer Reed and Karlie Rotunno each doubled.
Carmel 9, Nazareth 2: Winning pitcher Claire Petrus went seven innings and allowed just 1 earned run and had 3 strikeouts. Emma Bartz and Amanda Elert each had 2 hits for Carmel. Bartz had a home run and a triple while Elert had 2 doubles.
Vernon Hills 10, Grant 9: Grant almost completed its late rally by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh but Vernon Hills hung on for the win. Sara Lenzi led Vernon Hills with 3 hits while pitcher Carly Stern got the win. She rolled up 5 strikeouts over seven innings. For Grant, Kenzie Sancken and Sarah Ayala each had home runs.
