Lake Forest teen earns Eagle Scout Award
Spencer Milanak, 16, of Lake Forest, has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts: the Eagle Scout Award. Spencer will be recognized in a ceremony at Exmoor Country Club Sunday, May 3, at 5 p.m.
A member of Troop 333, Spencer is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Nick Coyne. To earn Scouting's highest award, Spencer had to earn 21 merit badges, serve as a leader in his troop and complete a major community service project.
Spencer's service project took place at Horsefeathers Therapeutic Riding in Lake Forest. Horsefeathers is an equine facility dedicated to using horses to improve the quality of life for children and adults. Spencer led a group of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in refurbishing and repainting the bleachers at Horsefeathers.
Spencer is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest and a junior at Lake Forest High School, where he is also a member of the National Honor Society, plays on the junior varsity tennis team and plays violin in the orchestra.
