214@100: RMHS Hot Rodders know engines inside and out

The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow members have achieved phenomenal success in a short time, already qualifying for the national tournament. Started by automotive teacher Joel Dufkis, it's a race against the clock: Each five-member team must disassemble and reassemble a car engine in the shortest amount of time possible to win. But fast teams can lose over an improper assembly or disassembly, dropped components and bad sportsmanship. "The kids practice all the time, and really strive to be as good as possible," Dufkis said. The Mustang team finished with a time of 29 minutes and 42 seconds - well under the 35-minute time limit needed to qualify for the national competition. At nationals, the team placed fifth among 28 competitors, ending a spectacular season on a high note.
