Roger McGuinn, co-founder of The Byrds, plays the ECC Arts Center May 2

Spend an evening with iconic musician Roger McGuinn, co-founder of The Byrds, on Saturday, May 2 at the ECC Arts Center.

McGuinn's performance will be held in the Arts Center located in Building H on ECC's Spartan Drive campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The performance will begin at 7 p.m.

During "An Evening with Roger McGuinn," McGuinn guides the audience along a journey of story and song, populated by the old friends they expect to hear like "Turn, Turn, Turn" and "Mr. Tambourine Man," as well as new acquaintances from the folk music genre that McGuinn has so passionately embraced over his career. A native Chicagoan, McGuinn began his folk studies at the famed Old Town School of Folk Music as a teenager before making a name for himself in the New York and Los Angeles music scenes in the 1960s.

As the co-founder of The Byrds, McGuinn not only lived history, he made history with his fearless sense of musical experimentation. As the leader of the influential 60s group, he was on the leading edge, combining the rock beat of the Beatles with the folk sensibilities of Bob Dylan, and, as a result, creating the genre known as "folk-rock."

McGuinn's solo career began in 1973 and has yielded 10 albums, a Grammy nomination, and extensive touring and performing. From his signature 12-string Rickenbacker sound to his instantly recognizable vocals, McGuinn is an indisputable music icon. According to Rolling Stone "Music would be a very different place if it hadn't been for Roger McGuinn," and Bruce Springsteen calls McGuinn "an incredible, amazing innovator."
