Children can build birdhouses in Hoffman Estates

Children are invited to "Build a Birdhouse," sponsored by the Village of Hoffman Estates Sustainability Commission, beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at the Susan H. Kenley-Rupnow Public Works Center, 2305 Pembroke Ave.

The commission will present a brief information session about bird nesting starting at 9 a.m. and commission members will be on hand to assist children and their parents with birdhouse construction. Each child will be able to take home the birdhouse he or she builds. The event is free but requires an RSVP. As this is a family-friendly activity, parents should plan to attend.

Materials will be supplied by the Sustainability Commission. Please bring a battery-operated screwdriver with a Phillips-head bit, or a medium Phillips-head screwdriver.

Participation is limited to the first 30 children registered. Reservations will be limited to children who are Hoffman Estates residents through Wednesday, April 22. After April 22, if space permits, reservations will be open to children from surrounding communities.

To register, call the Public Works Department at (847) 490-6800 or email grow2green@hoffmanestates.org with child name/s, age, and contact information.
