HandsOn Suburban Chicago launches Volunteer Corps

April 18th project to help local school

HandsOn Suburban Chicago is pleased to announce the formation of a Volunteer Corps, which will officially launch on Saturday, April 18.

The Volunteer Corps is a committed group of community members who will serve as advocates and support for local nonprofits who are making a difference in their communities.

This new group will spring into action with its first project on Saturday, April 18, at Central Road Elementary School in Rolling Meadows. The project will include constructing garden beds, preparing the garden area, laying mulch and painting garden pavers. This is a family-friendly project.

Everyone is eligible to sign up, including families and youth! Volunteers must be enthusiastic and willing to make a positive impact in their community!

"If you can't participate in this project, there will be plenty more opportunities to get involved," said Susan Bensen, event coordinator at HandsOn Suburban Chicago.

On the third Saturday of every month, HandsOn Suburban Chicago Volunteer Corps members will have the opportunity to participate in variety of different types of service projects and activities. The impact of the Volunteer Corps will be twofold; they will engage in meaningful service projects as well as reflect the value of volunteerism in addressing community needs.

For over 40 years, HandsOn Suburban Chicago has been inspiring, equipping and mobilizing people to volunteer and take action that builds vibrant and prosperous communities. HOSC recruits and refers 6,000 volunteers annually to over 200 member agency nonprofits, and provides other support to local charitable organizations, such as consultations and trainings. A nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency and part of the national HandsOn Network, HOSC service area includes 44 communities in the North and Northwest suburbs and a population of over 1.4 million residents.
