Aurora man guilty of sexual abuse of child
A 27-year-old Aurora man was found guilty Monday of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child, a Class 2 felony.
Marco A. Covarrubias-Rodriguez, most recently of the 800 block of Fourth Avenue in Aurora, will next appear in Kane County court on May 27 for post-trial motions and sentencing.
Prosecutors presented evidence at the trial that sometime between March 2006 and September 2012, Covarrubias-Rodriguez initiated sexual contact with the victim, whom he knew and who was younger than 12 years old.
The victim reported the abuse to a counselor in March 2014. The counselor immediately contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
According to the Kane County state's attorney's office, Covarrubias-Rodriguez admitted to authorities that he had abused the victim.
Covarrubias-Rodriguez is eligible for probation or a sentence of between three and seven years in prison.
In addition to any prison term, Covarrubias-Rodriguez must register for life as a sexual offender, in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
