Week of the Young Child Celebration is April 14
Celebrating Our Youngest Learners! is this year's theme for Week of the Young Child Tuesday, April 14, from 6-8 p.m., at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.
The celebration is made possible through District 214 Community Education's collaboration with ECDEC Early Childhood Block Grant and Golden Corridor Association for the Education of Young Children.
"All young children need and deserve high-quality early learning experiences that will prepare them for life," said Rhonda Serafin, District 214 Community Education's Adult Education & Family Literacy manager. "The celebration allows us to recognize that 'early years are learning years' for all young children."
A community resource expo, designed to provide an opportunity for families to learn about existing services in the community, will be part of the celebration. There will be family activities including arts and crafts and games that evening. Entertainment this year will be provided by Future Hits, led by band leader and founder Matthew Baron.
The event is part of the National Association for the Education of Young Children's celebration of Week of the Young Child that's scheduled April 12-18. Its purpose is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families, and to recognize the early childhood and home visiting programs that meet those needs.
The celebration, attended by over 1,000 participants in past years, shines the spotlight on the high quality education and services that District 214 Community Education and its partners are providing for children ages birth to five years old and their families.
District 214 Community Education will be represented by Director Mike Field, Adult Education & Family Literacy Manager Rhonda Serafin, Family Literacy Coordinator Marilyn Tantillo, Student Services Coordinator Carinna Tello, and Outreach Services Assistant Jhoanna Mendoza.
