'Voices of Hope' concert for those touched by cancer
The Naperville Men's Glee Club will perform a reprise of its 2013 "NMGC Voices of Hope" chorus for its spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at North Central College's Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.
The chorus includes more than 100 area men and women united by their personal experiences with cancer, who perform with the Glee Club and Silver Lining.
Naperville Men's Glee Club Conductor and Artistic Director Bonnie Klee Roberts and Assistant Conductor Steven Schroeder, Jr. will direct the chorus in an inspiring, entertaining selection of pop songs, blues, Broadway hits, movie tunes and gospel music.
"The purpose of Voices of Hope is to gather people who have, or have had, a role in the fight against cancer and to provide an opportunity for them to feel the inspiration, thrill, and deep affection for life that comes through singing," Roberts said.
"It's the opportunity for the Glee Club to say thank You for over 25 years of community support and to share the fellowship that comes from rehearsals. The concert is not intended to be a fundraiser for cancer."
Along with the performance, the lobby of Wentz Concert Hall will display the "Lilly Oncology on Canvas: Expressions of a Cancer Journey" art exhibit. Loaned by Lilly Oncology and The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, this traveling art show features paintings by cancer patients and caregivers that portray their cancer experience.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.napervillemensgleeclub.org for $18 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students. Group rates for 10 or more are available by calling (630) 448-0518. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door prior to the concert.
Cancer survivors may register now at the website to receive a complimentary concert ticket, courtesy of the DuPage Foundation. The complimentary tickets will be available for pickup in the lobby one hour before the concert.
