Palatine man charged with DUI after crashing into two police cars

A 40-year-old Palatine man was charged with driving under the influence after crashing his vehicle into two parked police cars just a block from his residence, police said Tuesday.

Mario Rosales, of the 900 block of West Panorama Drive, sideswiped a patrol car at 10:51 p.m. Thursday with such force that it propelled the squad into a second patrol car parked in front of it, according to police.

The police officers assigned the vehicles were nearby handling a domestic dispute call when they heard the crash, authorities said.

An officer caught up to Rosales and administered a field sobriety test, police said. Rosales later took a breath test which indicated he had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit, according to police. He's charged with DUI and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, police said.

The damage to the patrol cars is estimated at more than $4,000, police said.
