Naper Settlement expands day camp programs

Camp Naper, Naper Settlement's summer day camp, is offering new programs this year in addition to campers' favorites on the 12-acre museum campus at 523 S. Webster St., Naperville.

One-day, two-day, three-day and weeklong camps offer a variety of enrichment activities from art to science to sports and more.

Camps are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 15 to July 31 and include all supplies and a snack and are led by experienced, adult counselors. Registration is ongoing.

"No matter what your kids are interested in, our camps provide a unique summer experience with activities that are challenging, educational and fun," Learning Experiences Coordinator Anna DiCosola said. "With such a variety of camps offered, children can choose their own adventure."

The new "Camp Ukulele," for children in grades four through six, will be held July 13-17. Participants can take home their very own ukulele. The instructor is singer/songwriter and recording artist Kevin Presbrey.

"Summer Sampling Extreme" is a new five-day camp for children in grades one through six that will be July 20-24. Each day has a different theme and includes an exploration of archaeology, science and history.

A new three-day camp, "Pioneer Life," which will be July 29-31, has kids in grades three through six exploring what it was like to be a pioneer.

Two-day camps for boys and girls in grades one through six include a new sports camp, "Settlement Sports," featuring baseball June 29 and 30 and an art camp, "Drip, Scribble and Sketch," June 29 and 30.

A new Civil War camp invites campers in grades five through eight to immerse themselves in the lives of a Civil War soldiers from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 17. Parents are invited to come and join in for dinner.

A "Sampling of Summer Fun" for grades one through six includes one-day camps June 22 to 26 that can be taken individually or all week and include "Fizzy, Gooey, Soaring Science," "Recycled Art," "Time Warp," "Culinary Creations" and "Geocaching and Letterboxing."

Returning favorite five-day camps include Treasure Hunters (June 15-19, July 13-17), Treasure Hunters Extreme (July 6-10, July 27-31) and Secret Seekers (June 22-26). A $20 discount applies to five-day camps for those who have a Naper Settlement family membership.
