Library Week kicks off in Schaumburg with crafts, magic

The Magical Emporium Craft Fair & Flea Market will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 12, in the Rasmussen Room of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.

Unique handmade items created by local artists and crafters will be for sale, as well as bargain-priced flea market items. Gifts of the World, a fair trade retailer, will sell artwork and crafts created by international artisans, as well as coffee and chocolate.

All ages are welcome, but children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Items can be purchased with cash or checks, but not credit cards.

Craft fair tables will include jewelry, glass birdhouses, embellished handbags, artwork and more. Flea market tables will include art, clothing, décor, small appliances, jewelry, purses, toys, games, books, kitchenware and other items.

The Magical Emporium Craft Fair and Flea Market is part of this Sunday's National Library Week kickoff celebration at the library. A variety of other activities will also be taking place from noon to 3 p.m., while the craft fair and movies will extend beyond 3 p.m. In the lobby, library visitors will be entertained by pianist Abraham Levitan as they visit information tables and try their luck at the prize wheel.

"The Wizard's Apprentice," a free reading-themed magic show, will be presented at 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. in the Adult Classroom on the second floor. Children ages 3 and older, along with their parents or guardians, are invited to attend. Tickets for these 45-minute shows may be obtained from the kidsZone 20 minutes prior to each performance.

Three magic-themed movies will be shown in the Audiovisual Theatre throughout the day. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" will run at noon; Disney's "Fantasia" at 3 p.m.; and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" at 6 p.m. No registration is required.

Following the kickoff event, more magic programming will continue during National Library Week. For a full listing, check out the library's April-May Program Guide, which was mailed to Schaumburg Township residents and is available at www.schaumburglibrary.org or at the library.
