Court watch group provides training for volunteers

The Fox Valley Court Watch, a nonprofit organization, is providing a training session on Friday, April 10, for interested volunteers in Kane County and Friday, April 24, in Kendall County.

The program currently monitors the judicial process in domestic violence courts in Kane and Kendall counties judicial centers.

Court watcher observers are volunteers from the community, trained in domestic violence dynamics and court procedure which monitor, evaluate and advocate improving services for victims of domestic abuse. Through court watch, volunteers document observations of all trial activities in misdemeanor and felony domestic violence cases, with an eye toward identifying strengths and weaknesses in the Kane and Kendall county judicial system. Volunteers must be 18 years of age, have an email address and daily email access.

Volunteers are required to attend one court session to observe the function in the courtroom before making that final commitment.

Training will be held Friday, April 10, at the Kane County Judicial Center, off Route 38 in St. Charles, beginning at 9 a.m. with a continental breakfast and ending at 3:30 p.m. Training for Kendall County will be held Friday, April 24, at the Sugar Grove Fire Department, 25 S. Municipal Drive, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m.

To register for training, visit www.foxvalleycourtwatch.org for information, application form to volunteer and /or click on "Contact Us" to indicate you will attend training April 10 or April 24 and will bring the application form to the training class.
