Many unlocked vehicles burglarized in Palatine, only an iPad taken

Several apparently unlocked vehicles were ransacked in a Palatine neighborhood sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, though an Apple iPad is the only item reported missing so far.

Palatine police were alerted by a newspaper delivery person who spotted some open car doors on North Ashland Avenue near Robertson. The investigation soon found several other vehicles in a similar state on East Colfax, North Ashland, East Kenilworth and South Forest.

There were no signs of forced entry to any of the vehicles, and police are reminding citizens to avoid crimes of opportunity by locking vehicles and removing valuables from plain view.

Anyone with additional information about the burglaries should call (847) 359-9000.
