Hanover Park man charged in Palatine accident

A motorist who was seriously injured in a crash early Thursday in Palatine faces traffic charges, police said Friday.

Omar Castaneda-Maldonado, 26, of the 7400 block of Jensen Boulevard, Hanover Park, has been charged with improper lane usage and driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Maldonado is listed in fair condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, police said.

Police are being assisted by the regional Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team in investigating the single-vehicle crash, which occurred about 3:30 a.m. in the 700 block of South Roselle Road. Castaneda-Maldonado was traveling southbound, lost control of his vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Yaris, entered the northbound lane, then went off the road and struck a tree, police said.
