Plan for Sleepy Hollow's future

Plan for Sleepy Hollow's future

The Daily Herald said "vote no" on the tax increase, and today I got the vote no flier signed by Mr. Tennis and Mr. Shields complaining the tax increase will decrease property values and force seniors out of their homes.

As a senior, I understand both the need for advance planning for future expected life expenses and the costs of current living.

When I moved to the village 28 years ago, village rules, infrastructure and low crime rate attracted me to move here to raise my family and eventually retire. These things must be paid for. Services are not free. No one wants to live in a run down community with potholes, unplowed streets and crime.

The tax increase is less than one month's estimated cost of the estimated annual 2 percent of home value necessary to maintain your home and retain its value. Running out of money forces future village borrowing which will increase future taxes. You can't kick the can down the road. Plan ahead for our village's future and vote "yes" for the tax increase.
