214@100: Prospect girls golf dynasty

Working hard during the off-season and forging a strong bond led the Prospect High School girls' golf team to their first state championship in 2011. In 2012, the group took second place before winning state again in 2013.

"This is the best group of girls it could have happened to," varsity girls' golf coach James Hamann told the school newspaper in 2011. The girl's golf team's 2011 win over New Trier marked a huge milestone for girls' athletics by being the first girls' team to win a state championship in Prospect history.

Prospect retiree Jean Walker, one of the leaders who paved the way for gender equality in Illinois athletics, was proud.

"In a way, I've kind of lived it, just all the changes (in girls' athletics)," Walker told the Prospector. "It's just amazing to get to the point that we've got a state champion and state championship team." The team's 2013 win came over Loyola Academy.
