Fremont Middle School wins Math Challenge

Submitted by Fremont School District 79

Fremont Middle School won the Mundelein Mayor's Cup Math Challenge for the second year in a row thanks to some savvy student math minds.

Coached by teacher Doug Knox, 17 students participated on three teams during the weekend competition. The eighth grade team brought home the gold with participating members Zuhair Ali-Khan, Ryann Ray, Joe Dolff, Jeesu Choi, John Lay, and Spencer Robieson.

Individual winners, who also received scholarships, included Zuhair, $500; Jeesu, $300; Spencer, $250; Joe, $100; and Ryann, $25.

"Our nation needs students who are gifted in math to pursue careers in the technology fields. The Mayor's Cup supports that message," Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz said.
