Yard waste collection resumes April 6 in St. Charles

Curbside yard waste collection resumes Monday, April 6, for residents within St. Charles city limits. Generic yard waste bags can be purchased at local supermarkets. They are sold in packages of five and are usually found on the shelves by other garbage bags. A yard waste sticker will be required for each bag.

The 2015 brush pickup schedule:

East side: April 20, May 18, June 15, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21 and Oct. 19

West side: April 27, May 26 (Tuesday due to the Memorial Day Holiday), June 22, July 27, Aug. 24, Sept. 28, and Oct. 26.

There is no pickup in November.

The brush pickup program is conducted from April to October. Only City of St. Charles residents who pay a monthly fee on their utility bill are eligible. To find out if you are eligible for the program, review your City utility bill for the fee, input your address in "My Neighborhood" on the city website, or call utility billing at (630) 377-4426 for verification.

Branches need to be at least 3 feet long and less than 12 inches in diameter with cut ends facing the street. Brush must be placed on the parkway in front of the house or along the frontage where refuse/recycling is collected before 7 a.m. on Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday).

Once the crew passes an individual address it will not come back until the next scheduled pickup date.

It may take 3 to 4 days to get through your neighborhood.

Please remember: Brush that does not conform to pickup requirements will not be picked up. Do not tie bundles of brush with rope or wire. Brush must not be piled higher than 4 feet as this obstructs the visibility of pedestrians and vehicles. It is against city ordinance to pile brush in the street. Do not place metal, grass, leaves, dirt, roots or lumber in the brush pile. Brush piles with vehicles parked in front of them will not be picked up. Do not put poison ivy or oak in brush piles; please put this material in brown paper yard waste bags and place them out on your weekly refuse pickup day.

Tree trunks/stumps: If you take down a whole tree, please be aware that the maximum size the crew can pick up is 12 inches in diameter by 12-feet long. Anything larger or longer would need to be cut up or split before pickup.

Small branches, trimmings and leaves: These items can be placed in a brown paper yard waste bag (Purchase bags with the city logo or use generic bags and place one refuse sticker on each bag). Yard waste bags will be picked up on your weekly refuse pickup day. The schedule is available on the city website at www.stcharlesil.gov/services/brush.
