Column on Main St. bridge alcove damaged in apparent hit and run

One of the columns that supports the southwest alcove on the Main Street bridge in downtown St. Charles was damaged last week. It appears to have been damaged as a result of a hit and run incident that most likely occurred sometime between March 23 and March 24.

Structural engineers have examined the damage to the column and repairs to the structure will be completed soon. The adjacent sidewalk is open and is safe for passing pedestrians; however, the alcove will remain closed until repairs can be completed.

Anyone with information about the alleged incident should contact the St. Charles Police Department at (630) 377-4435.
