Falk wins it in 13 for Vernon Hills

Justin Falk's pinch-hit groundball plated the winning run in the bottom of the 13th inning, as Vernon Hills' baseball team outlasted Richmond-Burton 6-5 Saturday.

The nonconference game featured more than 10 pitchers and 100 batters.

Jack Duffley reached on an error to start the 13th for the Cougars. Drew Winegardner then singled and Brennan Reback walked to load the bases. With two strikes and the infield pulled in, Falk hit a groundball to shortstop. Duffley beat a bobbled relay to the plate to seal the victory for the home team.

Vernon Hills' Connor McNamara continued his hot streak, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and reaching base safely in five of his six plate appearances. Matt Paszko also had a hit for the Cougars.

Eric Weiler earned his first varsity win, retiring six of the seven hitters that he faced.
