Prospect stays hot on spring trip
Prospect's baseball team turned in another efficient performance in Tampa, Fla., topping Rosemount (Minn.) 6-3 on Wednesday to improve to 4-1 this spring.
Patrick Donohue and Jake Cavaiani each had 2 hits at the top of the lineup for the Knights, and Ryan Molini (double) and Cavaiani (triple) delivered extra-base hits.
Senior Nick Donzelli allowed 3 earned runs in 5 innings to get the win, and both Dan Devereux and Sean Blatz were effective in relief for the Knights.
Prospect played errorless ball and managed to steal 9 bases, including 4 by Donohue.
Elk Grove 10, Deerfield 8: The visiting Grenadiers brought their bats, as Matt Wary homered and finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI as part of a 12-hit attack to help the defending Mid-Suburban League champs to their first win of the spring.
A.J. Lorenz and Sean Fege had 2 hits apiece and Jordan Guerrero drove in 2 runs for Elk Grove (1-2).
Grens starter Christian Camacho allowed 4 hits and 1 earned run over 5 innings while striking out five to get the victory, and Michael Parisi and Jonathan Maday both tossed 1 scoreless relief inning.
Prairie Ridge 4, Palatine 2: The Wolves produced all their scoring in the sixth inning to pick up a nonconference victory.
Palatine struggled with the bats, picking up 5 hits but striking out 12 times as reliever Alec Thune earned a victory for Prairie Ridge. Ryan Anderson and Charlie Van Dyke both had 2 hits for Palatine (2-2).
Pirates starter Zander Breytenbach kept the Wolves scoreless through 5 innings before their big rally.
• The Pirates also dropped a night game to Libertyville 10-0 at Heritage Park in Wheeling.
