Ryan Sargent fired a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts Monday to lead Jacobs' baseball team to a 1-0 win over Warren at Rent One Ballpark in downstate Marion.
The Golden Eagles (2-1) scored the game's only run in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Daniel Tenayuca that drove in Matt Koziak.
Sargent didn't walk a batter in his 6 innings of work. Johnny Rohde came on to pitch the seventh, walking one and striking out one to earn the save.
Dundee-Crown 6, Quincy 3: Michael Cruse was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI as the Chargers earned a nonconference win at Quincy. Brett Johnson (2-for-3, 2 doubles, RBI), Jim Welzein (2-fo-4, 2B, RBI) each contributed to the victory while Jared Ludwig and Riley Alvarado each drove in runs as well. Danny Denz picked up the win for D-C (2-0), going 6 innings and allowing just 5 hits with 14 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Cary-Grove wins 2: The Trojans managed just 1 hit but took advantage of 6 walks to beat Grant 6-2 then came back with an 8-2 win over Wauconda in nonconference games played at Rent One Ballpark in downstate Marion. In the win over Grant, Quinn Celske had Cary-Grove's only hit and was credited with 3 RBI. Jesse Ives also had an RBI. Max Nelison was the winning pitcher. Against Wauconda, Wyatt Mascarella (3 RBI) and Jimmy Perkins (2-for-2, 3B 2 RBI) each homered for the Trojans (3-0-1). Larkin Hanselmann picked up the win. He and Daniel Schmidt combined for 15 strikeouts.
