Obama tells paper he wants library to be in Chicago

CHICAGO (AP) - President Barack Obama says he hopes his presidential library is built in Chicago but there are "some entanglements."

The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/1F38Djy ) that Obama made the comments during a "brief conversation" Saturday at the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington.

The comments first appeared in a Tribune editorial. The editorial didn't include any explanation from Obama about the entanglements. But there has been debate over the University of Chicago's bid because it calls for the library to be built on public park land.

On Wednesday, the City Council is expected to pass an ordinance pushed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to allow the library to be built on park land.

The University of Illinois at Chicago, New York's Columbia University and the University of Hawaii are also bidding for the library.
