Darin LaHood notes differences with ex-congressman father
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Darin LaHood says if elected he would not necessarily be his father's style of congressman.
The conservative Republican state senator from Dunlap announced Wednesday he will seek the U.S. House post that GOP Rep. Aaron Schock will quit March 31 because of mounting ethics questions.
The 46-year-old LaHood is the son of Schock's predecessor - former Rep. Ray LaHood, a congressional Republican from 1995 to 2009 and later President Barack Obama's transportation secretary.
Ray LaHood was one of three GOP freshmen elected in 1994 who did not sign Newt Gingrich's conservative "Contract with America." In 1997, he organized bipartisan retreats to foster cooperation.
Darin LaHood says like many political families, his disagrees sometimes.
He says of his father, "He has different views. I love him nonetheless."
