1 woman dies when truck is submerged in Indiana floodwaters
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a 60-year-old Evansville woman has died and a second is recovering after rescuers pulled them from a truck submerged in floodwaters near the Ohio River.
Deputy Vanderburgh County Coroner Steve Lockyear says the floodwater's frigid temperatures played a significant role in the death of Shelia Chester.
Evansville Police spokesman Sgt. Jason Cullum says an officer responding to a 911 call spotted the other women treading water near the truck about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. He and a firefighter pulled her to safety using a rope.
After the woman told officials Chester was still in the truck, a dive team found her and performed CPR but she later died.
Cullum says the truck was found along a flooded road blocked by a barricade and near signs warning motorists of floodwaters.
