Software error tough on Kane taxpayers

Software error tough on Kane taxpayers

The latest Kane County real estate tax move leaves many of us senior citizens wondering how we will cover the yet unknown temporary rate increase. They said the problem was caused by a "software error." This is analogous to my bank telling me they made an error that reduced my account, but that I am responsible for the error - not them. I have reviewed my recent tax bills and it appears that the increase could be as much as 20 percent. There is little time left before June to accrue funds to pay such an additional penalty.

Because the error occurred over a two-year period, it would be more humane to spread the makeup over a two-year period, also. But I'm sure they would like to put this major embarrassment behind them as quickly as possible.

Since "software errors" seem to occur, what assurance do we have that the penalty will be removed after one year? If they get used to the additional money they may find a way to keep it.
