Woman falls through ice chasing runaway dog
PORT BARRINGTON, Ill. (AP) - A woman chasing a runaway dog fell through thin ice on the Fox River and was rescued by first responders.
The Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake reports (http://bit.ly/1BpsRNg) the unidentified woman fell through the ice Sunday afternoon at the Fox River Preserve and Marina. She had been walking her dog, which got away to chase birds on the river.
The woman climbed back onto the ice before she was rescued. Wauconda Fire District Battalion Chief Bill Hoover says rescuers donned cold-weather immersion suits and helped the woman get back to shore.
An ambulance from the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District treated the woman at the scene.
