Malnourished central Indiana teen nearly doubles weight
ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - A prosecutor says a 16-year-old central Indiana who weighed less than 40 pounds when rushed to a hospital has nearly doubled her weight.
Deputy Madison County Prosecutor Stephanie Wade said Monday the girl now weighs about 70 pounds, can say a few words and has been released from the hospital into foster care.
The physically and mentally disabled girl was found severely malnourished Dec. 1 inside the Anderson home she shared with her grandparents.
The Herald Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/1BNELoY ) Madison Circuit Judge Dennis Carroll set an Aug. 16 trial date for the girl's aunt, who faces three counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, three counts of criminal confinement and one count of battery resulting in injury.
The grandparents also face neglect and other charges.
