St. Charles Kiwanis Club awards grants

The St. Charles Kiwanis Club recently awarded grants to three organizations that serve area children.

The Association for Individual Development received a $500 grant to help support its Children's In-Home Program, which secures developmental therapy and recreational opportunities for severely challenged children while allowing them to remain at home.

Young Life Kane County also was the recipient of a $500 grant. Targeted specifically for high school students, the organization is a Christian-based social and fellowship group that engages in monthly activities.

The St. Charles Public Library's Babysitter Training Program was awarded a $1,500 grant. Since its inception in 2001, more than 830 students, age 11 to 15, have been Red Cross certified. The program is the only one in the area that offers baby-sitting skills, first aid instruction, and CPR certification in one workshop.

Kiwanis is a global organization serving the children of the world. The St. Charles Kiwanis meet at noon every Tuesday at the Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Ave. in St. Charles. Service-minded individuals are invited to attend for fellowship and fun. For membership information, call Diane DeWitte at (630) 272-1875 or visit kiwanisofstcharles.org.
