Big win for McHenry at Palatine Invite
Among the surprises in the first day of Palatine's boys water polo invite was the showing from McHenry.
The Warriors, not present in the top 25 of the illpolo.com preseason state rankings, handled No. 4 St. Ignatius 16-7 with Garrett Floden (5 goals) leadin the way.
Chicago Curie topped Palatine 16-6, as the home team got a pair of goals from Marcus Carter-Buckman and Alex Adame, and 1 each from T.J. May and Sean O'Brien.
New Trier picked up an 11-10 win over Curie, and in another matchup of top-10 teams, Loyola handled Oak Park-River Forest 13-3.
Other results included Mundelein topping St. Ignatius 17-9 and OPRF edging Homewood-Flossmoor 11-8.
Saturday's action at Palatine includes three morning games - New Trier vs. Palatine (8 a.m.), H-F vs. Loyola (8:55 a.m.) and McHenry vs. Mundelein (9:50 a.m.) - before championship round games begin.
• Conant also hosts a tournament on Saturday. The Cougars will play three games - at 11:30 a.m. against St. Charles East, at 1:30 p.m. against Lake Forest and at 4:30 p.m. against Lane.
