Police find Illinois sexual assault convict in hidden room

NEWARK, Ill. (AP) - Officials in northern Illinois say they've found a man convicted of sexual assault in a hidden room at his wife's Newark home after a two-month manhunt.

The (Aurora) Beacon-News reports (http://trib.in/1CcNlja ) the Kendall County sheriff's office received a tip that 40-year-old Shawn Lipsey of Plano might be staying with his wife. The Kendall County Sheriff's SWAT team found Lipsey on Tuesday hiding in a secret room at the home. He apparently built it himself.

Kendall County Sheriff's Deputy Bryan Harl said the room had a fake wall with hinges.

Lipsey was convicted in November of six counts of child sexual abuse. He was released on bail and has been on the run since he didn't appear at a January sentencing hearing.

Newark is about 25 miles southwest of Aurora.
