Galesburg man pleads guilty to gun charge in teen's death
GALESBURG, Ill. (AP) - A Galesburg man has pleaded guilty to unlawful firearm possession in connection to the 2013 shooting death of a 15-year-old.
The Register-Mail (http://bit.ly/1L8v9LF ) reports 19-year-old Alex Horton pleaded guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor charge as part of a plea deal.
Attorneys for both sides said the plea deal was reached in part because Horton cooperated with investigators. Prosecutors dropped a felony gun charge against Horton.
A judge gave Horton a 180-day jail sentence and two years of probation, but credited him for all 180 days served.
Nineteen-year-old Brandon Kenney pleaded guilty last month to a second-degree murder charge in the death of Javon Butler. Kenney was given a 40-year prison sentence.
Assistant State's Attorney Elisa Nelson said police don't think the pistol Horton had at the time of the shooting was the one used to kill Butler.
