Shields dominant, Kemp 0 for 3; Dodgers beat Padres

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - James Shields struck out five in three perfect innings and Matt Kemp went 0 for 3 in his first game against his former team as the San Diego Padres lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 on Thursday night.

Shields didn't allow a ball out of the infield in his second spring start with his new team. The right-hander's fastball hit 92 mph, he had four consecutive strikeouts and threw only 12 balls in 39 pitches.

Kemp, traded in December after spending his first eight seasons in Los Angeles, grounded to Dodgers starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu, flied to right and struck out.

Ryu threw two hitless innings in his spring debut for the Dodgers.

Joc Pederson belted a home run well over actor Will Ferrell's head in the ninth. Ferrell played right field for the Padres and threw one pitch for the Dodgers to complete his Cactus League tour.
