NSSEO holds art show in Palatine
The Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO) held its 43rd annual Spring Showcase of the Arts over the weekend, a juried art fair and show at Kirk School in Palatine featuring more than 90 artists, along with a cafe and bake sale.
The show is run by volunteers to benefit the education and accessibility provided to the students of the group's schools and programs in the Northwest suburbs.
The cooperative focuses on trying to provide quality education to children with special needs.
Bill Lloyd, president of the organization, estimated that the art and craft show generated $15,000 to $20,000 over the two days of the show.
“Just as a clarifying comment — it is the NSSEO Foundation that held and put on this weekend's event. We are the charitable organization that raises supplemental resources for NSSEO children and students. The foundation and NSSEO are separate entities,” Lloyd said.
The money collected comes from the artist entrance fee, bake sale and raffle ticket purchases for items donated by the artist and crafts people in addition to other items donated by organization supporters such as a $500 Visa gift card and an iPad Air. Lloyd added that 750-1,000 people attended the show.
The Mount Prospect-based organization is a special education cooperative formed 43 years ago to serve students with disabilities and their families. Member districts include Arlington Heights Elementary District 25, Wheeling Township Elementary District 21, Mount Prospect Elementary District 57, Prospect Heights Elementary District 23, River Trails Elementary District 26, Palatine-Schaumburg Township District 211 and Northwest Suburban High School District 214.
