Winter weather advisory in effect until noon, then rain and sleet to follow

A winter weather advisory remains in effect and snowfall is starting accumulate in the Chicago suburbs.

The advisory is set to expire at noon today, but not before it's anticipated to deposit between 1 and 2 inches of snow in the suburban area.

The snow is expected to move on as temperatures climb to 37 degrees this afternoon, then switch over to rain and sleet, officials at the National Weather Service said.

Freezing rain and sleet could lead to some ice accumulating on untreated surfaces, then lead to hazardous travel conditions. People should use caution and watch for black ice, officials said.

Temperatures are expected to drop to a low of about 12 degrees overnight. West northwest winds of 10 mph to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph, are expected.
