Fremont Library to host miniature circus displays
Intricate model circuses and model circus trains will be on display at Fremont Public Library during a special open house weekend Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22.
The North Central O Gaugers Model Railroad Club, which operates a train layout at the library that is open to the public one weekend a month, has invited the Circus Model Builders of Southern Wisconsin/Northern Illinois to display its members' collections of model circus layouts.
Nine members of the club will exhibit scale-model replicas of circus wagons, trains, trucks, and entire circuses. They will show the public what a circus looked like when horses pulled wagons and how much detail went into building the wagons that hauled the circus from one town to the next.
The display will be set up in the library's main meeting on the second floor from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 21 and 1-4 p.m. March 22.
At the same time, members of the train club will operate model circus and carnival trains on its layout nearby. A special guest will be Thomas and Friends, which the kids can run on the tracks and become honorary engineers. The event is free and should appeal to all age groups.
The library is at 1170 N. Midlothian Road in Mundelein. For details, call the library at (847) 918-3225.
