Knox County officials approve courtroom renovations

GALESBURG, Ill. (AP) - The complete renovation of a Galesburg courtroom, including asbestos removal, has received a green light from officials in Knox County.

The Knox County Board authorized spending $174,800 for the project. It will include a new jury box, drop ceiling and carpeting. Hein Construction of Galesburg will do the work. The (Galesburg) Register-Mail reports (http://bit.ly/1Bu8H9N) the changes will make the jury box and witness stand accessible to people with disabilities.

Judges in the Ninth Judicial Circuit have agreed to chip in up to $68,000 for the renovation.

The courtroom will be closed off during part of the construction period because of the asbestos removal.
