I am a seasoned business executive who has a passion for problem solving and have NO experience in the politics of Libertyville, which can add a fresh perspective. What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain. Our taxes are very high, however, I understand that as property values decline, that does not lessen the burden on required services, such as police and fire. Libertyville residents enjoy an excellent quality of life, which comes at a price. Having said that, I would be very interested in taking a look at our budget with an eye to investigating any expenses that could be lowered or eliminated so the tax burden could be lowered as well.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns? Our police and fire coverage speaks for itself in the low crime rate and lack of "noise" generated when a gap in coverage is evident. As for preparation for the next decade, I would be willing to explore that further as a trustee. I do not have specific public safety concerns, nor have I heard of any from other residents.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?I think our current board has been fiscally responsible and do not see any glaring frivolous expenses. My experience tells me that sometimes you have to be "on the inside" to see the complete picture, and I am willing to do just that with a seat on the Board. What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?I am not sure that no one is talking about it, but how does Libertyville compare in "Best Practices". Since we do not have any major crises at the moment, now's a good time to look at that. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Commuter rail and parking issues are still a challenge for those who commute to the city. I'd like to see what creative solutions we might be able to use to ease the parking burden. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Anna Marie ChavezWhat's the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Tell the truthIf life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?taking better care of my health - working out consistently throughout my life. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?English - if you can't communicate, it sure makes everything else more difficult. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Be honest - to yourself and all those you encounter.
